Is that the "Twilight Zone" theme I hear?

I was in Somerville, NJ on Friday at a job interview. I've quit saying, "Boy, that went well!" because frankly, too many times I've thought that, and had nothing come of it. In addition, I had three good phone interviews just today.

Tonight, my Dad and I were trawling around the kitchen trying to figure out what to eat for dinner. I cooked a big family meal (my brother, sister-in-law and their kids came over) - turkey, smashed potatoes, glazed carrots, and a cake for dessert. So I really didn't feel like cooking tonight. We decided to splurge and order in some Chinese food (shrimp and scallops in garlic sauce, and a crispy chicken dish that's kinda like General Tso's chicken, but better).

My fortune cookie said, "All your hard work will soon pay off." I read it to my dad, and said, "See? When will that phone ring?"

Just then....the phone rang. I jokingly said, "See? That's the NJ office. They're going to make me an offer!" I really thought it was my brother, who usually calls around that time of night anyway. Picking up the phone, I almost said, "Hi, (brotherofKT)!," but didn't, and it was a good thing...

It was the NJ office, telling me they just need to check my references before sending me an offer letter.

I nearly freaked. "All [my] hard work is soon going to pay off!"

Now.... be forewarned. I have not actually seen an offer from these people, and refuse to get my hopes up too much until I do. And even then, I'm not even sure the offer won't be incredibly insulting. So hold off on the congrats until later in the week. But the sequence of events is just too....Twilight Zonish not to feel odd!
